With the Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri festival in town, we are honored to be able to share some of the event's award-winning wines with you. On 23 February 2010 we are pleased to present the wines of the Benanti family. The Benanti's specialize in indigenous varietals from the slopes of Mt. Etna in Sicily, where the family's winemaking traditions date back to the late-1800s. Executive Chef Elizabeth Binder has created an exceptional Sicilian-inspired menu that celebrates the historic connection of two great Sicilian traditions: cuisine and viticulture.
Sicilys food and wine is influenced by millennia of rotating foreign invasion and rule. The resulting gastronomy is the height of fusion. But make no mistake, this is soulful, warming yet complex cuisine, not a fusion created by warm baths, foams, and tweezers. The 4-course dinner will show off the range of Sicilian flavors and, of course, highlight the impressive Benanti wines from the Mt. Etna region, including a white that critics have called the Puligny-Montrachet of the south and a red from 100+ year-old vines. Stunning.
